Patriots tested by FM in The Hangar
PITSBURG- Trailing by as much as 13 in the second half, the Tri-Village
Patriots found themselves with their back to the wall at Franklin
Monroe Friday in CCC action.
On the strength of 10 fourth quarter points by senior Kyle Pipenger,
the Patriots remained undefeated on the season, taking a hard fought
47-44 victory.
Trailing 13-6, 21-15 and 36-28 at the breaks, Tri-Village went on a
scoring spree in the final eight minutes, out-dueling the Jets, 19-8 in
the frame, to get the victory.
“I don’t think I could have scripted a worse first half for us," said
Pats coach Josh Sagester. "We were down six going to the locker room.
Wasn’t too bad a shape to be in to be quite honest. It could have been
a lot worse. We kept fighting scratching and clawing and made some
plays when we had to.”
The difference maker came in the form of sophomore Colton Linkous.
The Tri-Village sophomore connected on three triples in the third
quarter, helping to keep the visiting Patriots within striking distance
for the win.
With the lead changing hands on several occasions, FM coach Troy Meyers
knew it would be a battle.
“We knew it would go down to the wire," said Myers. “The way we
started, you have to know a team like Tri-Village is going to make
runs. I told them in the first break, the first time out, you’ve got to
weather the storm, it’s coming. I thought we did it for about three and
one half quarters and then they made some plays down the stretch and
that’s the difference in the ballgame.”
With the Patriots holding close, Pipenger took control in the fourth
quarter, scoring 12 of his 14 points for the game in the frame.

Bradford- The Bradford Railroaders played their home opener Friday
night vs Ansonia Tigers. The Tigers were coming off a three game losing
streak in the first part of their season and rebounded with a 57-46
victory over the Railroaders.
First quarter started off with the Railroaders taking a 14-8 lead with
2:05 left in the first. Ansonia called a time out. At the end of the
first period the score was 14-10 Railroaders.
Second quarter the Railroaders were up 23-17 with 3:19 in the period.
They extended that lead to 30-21 with some nice offensive play by
Bradford.
Third quarter the Tigers shut down the Railroader offense, only
allowing 5 points while putting up 26. That proved to be a deficit that
the Bradford team would not be able to overcome. Score at the end of
the 3rd was Tigers 37, Railroaders 35.
Fourth quarter The Railroaders keep it close with 4:06 left and the
score was 42-37 in favor of the Tigers.
That was as close as it would get as the Tigers got hot and the
Bradford shots wouldn’t fall.
This was a hard fought competitive game. Both teams left it all on the
floor. The Railroaders just ran out of steam.
