Over
$7000 in Cash and Truck Load
of Non-Perishable Items Benefit Darke & Mercer Counties
ROSSBURG,
OH (Dec. 12) – It was a
classic tale of the celebration of two seasons recently at Eldora
Speedway. Speedway
staff members and
vendors gathered Saturday evening (Dec. 8) to celebrate the completion
of a
successful 2012 racing season at the venerable .500-mile clay oval
speed plant;
and in the spirit of the Christmas season, the theme was ‘Pack the
Pantry.’
Collectively,
the attendees
collected enough non-perishable goods to overflow Eldora’s Chevrolet
Silverado
pace truck and raised nearly $7,000 in cash through an auction of
donated items
from area businesses and race teams.
Benefitting from that generosity will be
two area food banks – CALL
(Community Action Life Line) Food Pantry of Mercer County and Fish
Choice
Pantry of Darke County.
Organizing
the event was Eldora
Concession Manager Todd Stucky. “We
are
truly honored and moved by the support of our Eldora racing family and
their
desire to help the less fortunate during this time of the year,”
commented
Stucky.
The
donated supplies, and
additional goods purchased through the cash donation, will be
distributed to
families in need throughout those counties as identified by the pantry
directors.
Saturday’s
event complemented
Eldora’s Feed The Children Prelude to the Dream held this past June. Proceeds of the
event’s pay-per-view
broadcast and the “Night with the Kenny’s,” featuring NASCAR stars
Kenny
Schrader, Kenny Wallace and a surprise appearance by track owner and
three-time
NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart were used to purchase multiple
semi-truck loads of non-perishable items that were distributed to
numerous food
pantries throughout the United States, including one semi load that was
split
between the local CALL and Fish units.
That distribution was enjoyed by 200
families in each county.
Fueled
by the tremendous success of
2012, the staff reviewed the exciting 2013 Eldora major event schedule
which
includes not only the recently announced Inaugural Midsummer Classic
for the
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (July 24), but additions to the
traditional
Dirt Late Model Dream (June 6-7-8) and World 100 (Sept. 5-6-7)
weekends, along
with the pomp and circumstance that surrounds the Kings Royal (July 12
&
13) Weekend.
Seats
and campsites for the Dream,
Kings Royal and World 100 weekends are on sale now through the track’s
website
www.EldoraSpeedway.com or by calling the track office at (937)338-3815. The NASCAR
Camping World Truck Series event
tickets and campsites will go on sale January 5.
