T-V inducts three in HOF
By Dale Barger
NEW MADISON- Tri-Village picked up where they left off from Friday
night’s opening 85-35 victory over Mississinawa Valley with a 76-29 win
over National Trail.
Trail scored first taking a 2-0 lead, their only lead of the night.
Matthew Werner hit a trey to give the Patriots a 3-2 lead. A lead they
would never lose the rest of the game.
Leading 7-6, midway through the first period, Tri-Village went on a
seven point run extending their lead to 14-6. The Patriots held a 14-8
lead at the end of the first quarter on the shooting of Kyle Pipenger’s
seven-point first quarter performance.
The Blazers opened the second quarter scoring on a Montana Peck
two-pointer cutting the Patriots lead to 14-10.
The rest of the quarter was all Patriots as they outscored their
opponent 26-4 on their way to intermission. Tri-Village scored 15
unanswered points stretching their lead to 35-13 with under two minutes
to play in the half. Matthew Werner hit two of his five 3-pointers on
the night in the period. Kyle Pipenger hit a bucket as the buzzer
sounded ending the first quarter with the Patriots holding a commanding
40-14 first half lead.
Tri-Village Coach Josh Sagester commented on his teams lead.
“It’s hard to manage a game like this with the perception of running up
the score", Sagester stated. " We’ve got guys that put a lot of time in
basketball and they deserve to play as well. We were substituting
trying to keep some fresh legs in there and when the substitutes come
in you have to let them play as well.”
The second half began with Tri-Village in possession of the ball.
Unable to score, National Trail scored first in the third quarter as
they had done in the two previous quarters on the night.
The Patriots outscored the Blazers 14-11 in the third period as the
Patriots shooting cooled down from their second period 26-point
outburst. Both Werner and Pipenger hit a trey in the period extending
the third quarter score to 54-25.
Trail made it four for four scoring first in each quarter on the night
as Mize hit a bucket to open the fourth quarter. Sagester continued to
rotate his players in and out during the quarter as his team stretched
their lead.
With 3:07 to play, Werner hit his fifth trey of the night for
Tri-Village making the score 68-29.
The Patriots finished the night holding the Blazers Scoreless over the
final five minutes of the game while on a 15-0 run of their own.
Tri-Village moves to 2-0 on the new season in two nights winning 76-29.
“A pretty good evening I thought for Tri-Village basketball,” said
Sagester.
“They’re great kids,” said Sagester of his players. "I have two
three-year starters. I’ve got two two-year starters. Kids that kinda
been through the wars, understand what the expectation level is.” He
continued, “They are all in, not necessarily just players. We’ve got
parents all in. Everybody’s on the same page and at the end of the day
everybody is just concerned about getting a “W”.”
Next week undefeated Tri-Village travels to undefeated Franklin-Monroe
for an early season showdown between two projected CCC leaders.
Sagester commented on the upcoming contest.
“They are a good basketball team," Sagester said of the Jets. "It’s not
going to be easy going over there. It’s never easy over there. We
didn’t play real well on their floor last year,” he said. “They’ve got
a lot of guys back as well, so we’re going to have to be ready to play
and hopefully we can make some plays and get one.
In JV action the boys defeated National Trail 53-36. Damion Cook had a
double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Tommy Bell added 13
points and Mason McCabe chipped in with 11
