Tri-Village remains undefeated with win over Houston
Ansonia up next for Lady Patriots

NEW MADISON- Even with three of his big guns on the bench with first quarter foul problems, Tri-Village coach Brad Grey was quite pleased with the effort his team displayed against Houston Tuesday at The Battleground.

In fact, with Shaye Thomas, Lexi Bruner and Krystal Falknor watching, senior Teha Richards stepped up and took the reins, leading the team as a true senior leader would as Tri-Village unloaded a 62-35 victory over the Wildcats.

When I have two of me leading scorers sitting next to me for the majority of the quarter and we were able to extend our lead,” Grey stated. “Teha was out there as our leading scorer and took it on her shoulders to help get the lead extended, what a great job she did,”

The Patriots got out of the gate slow, battling the Cats to a 5-5 tie mid-way through the opening frame.

With just over four minutes remaining in the frame, the Patriots went on an 11-0 run to close out the first eight minutes, up 16-5.

Holding a 32-16 lead at the break, the Patriots defense held strong as Houston could muster just 10 third quarter tallies while T-V racked up a commanding 48-28 advantage with a quarter left to play.

“Our defense was good tonight,” said Grey. “We are back to where we were two weeks ago. Saturday we weren’t good defensively (vs. National Trail) but we picked it back up tonight. It was a good effort.”

While the defense was stingy for the Pats in the third frame, it was downright vicious in the fourth quart, allowing just seven more Wildcat points, 17 for the whole second half.

In the end, Thomas netted 20 for Tri-Village while Richards added 13 and Bruner 10 in support.

Now 4-0, the Lady Patriots will remain idle until December 13 when they travel to Ansonia to take on the Tigers.
