PIQUA- To say it’s been less than a successful season for Ansonia is
quite the understatement. With injuries plaguing the Tigers, it was a
basketball season that Darrick Barga would just like to put behind him.
The Tigers season came to an end Friday night as Ansonia fell victim to
Lehman Catholic, 70-27, in sectional action at Piqua. Leading the
Tigers 11-7 after one, the Cavaliers took off in the second eight
minutes. Holding Ansonia to just two points in the frame, the Cavs
strolled into the intermission, up 29-9.
With just nine total points of offense in the opening 16 minutes,
things did get a little better for Ansonia on offense, scoring 18.
The problem was the Tigers defense couldn’t stop the Cavs offense as
Lehman Catholic put up 41 on the board in the final 16 minutes of play.
Lehman Catholic put three in double figures while the Tigers were led
by Derek Kaiser and Austin Bergman had eight each in the Ansonia effort.
Ansonia’s season ended with a 6-15 record.
