CNO Female
Athlete of the Month
Robins
proving to be one of the best
February 1, 2012
PITSBURG -
Franklin Monroe junior Taylor Robins has been a bright spot for the
Lady Jets
this season. Averaging 17 points a game for the Jets, Robins has become
a
scoring leader for Franklin Monroe.
Leading the
Jets in scoring in nearly all games, Robins has been a sparkplug for
the blue
and white. In the last three games out, Robins has scored 73 points, 30
against
Newton in a victory. Her hard work and dedication has earned her the
Female
Athlete of the Month award.
“It makes
me feel good about how I’ve been playing lately,” Robins said. “I had
some
problems at the start of the year with the way my attitude was but I’ve
changed
that. When I changed my attitude about the middle of the season, my
game got
better.”
The 2011-12
season hasn’t been stellar for the Jets but Robins has stepped up in
light of
all the injuries on the team.
“We’ve had
two players that have not played because of injuries,” said Robins. “We
lost
Aubrie Myers at the start of the season and Allison Hildebrand
recently. Both
are seniors and when a team loses two players like them, it is going to
hurt.”
With Kayla
Linkous and Abby O’Donnell having been named as Athletes of the Month
in
November and December, Robins feels it to be an honor to be on the same
list as
them.
“It’s nice
to know when you have stepped up your game that someone is watching and
paying
attention to you,” Robbins said. “Kayla is ranked number one in the
area right
now. She is the best. So to be named in the same group as she is, is an
honor.”
Robins, has
become a scoring machine in Darke County but she takes little credit to
her
success.
“I may be
doing a lot of scoring but my team’s the one that sets me up,” admitted
Robins.
“I can’t do anything without them. It’s not just me, it’s the team.”
Now that
Robins has become a name in the basketball ranks, she has become the
focal
points to other teams.
“It’s
really not as frustrating as you might think,” Robins said. “I see it
as a sign
of respect by other teams and if they are paying that much attention to
me,
then other players on the team are open. We have been seeing box and
one and
the tri-angle lately and we are working on plays to break those
defenses. When
Haley (Gray) and I are looking at those defenses, it opens up Claire
(Neiswander) and Michelle (Heckman) and they have been scoring for us.
They are
all stepping up and it takes the pressure off Haley and me.”
Robins played at Troy Christian, playing with some of her friends.
Living in
Englewood and in the Trotwood school district, Robins didn’t want to be
a Lady
Ram as her friends at Troy Christian decided to attend Troy Senior High
School.
Liking
the smaller school setting, Robins
decided Franklin Monroe was a better fit for her than Trotwood-Madison.
