Tri-Village
overwhelms Lady Hawks
By George Starks
NEW MADISON - It didn’t take long for Tri-Village to establish its
dominance Thursday over Mississinawa Valley. On a night when milestones
were achieved for the red, white and blue Patriots, it was another
night at the office for Kayla Linkous and company.
Linkous dumped in 23 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and added her name
to the 2,000 point, 1,000 rebound club in Ohio as Tri-Village rolled to
a 77-28 victory over the Lady Blackhawks.
“She is a first ballot hall of fame player in the state of Ohio,” said
Pats coach Brad Grey. “I doubt she will be Miss Basketball in the state
but I wouldn’t trade her for anyone. I like what I got right here.”
Leading from the beginning, Tri-Village jumped off to a 7-0 start and
never looked backed, leading 23-7 after one, 42-10 at the break and
61-12 after three.
It was a game that was never in doubt as the Patriots put three in
double figures. Led by Linkous, the Patriots saw Shaye Thomas and
Krystal Falknor dump in 17 each in support.
“I’ve been telling people for years that we are not just a one trick
pony,” Grey said. “This is a basketball team that can be beat if we let
up just for a second. If Kayla doesn’t have the players around her, she
doesn’t get these kinds of numbers. We have a really good basketball
team here. We really do.”
“I thought we played extremely well tonight,” Grey said of his team. “I
told the girls in the locker room that I thought we played four
quarters of basketball in all three aspects of the game, offense,
defense and transition. This was the best we’ve played this year. There
were games when we played better offensively and maybe a game where we
were close to what we did on defense tonight but to put all three
phases together the way we did tonight, I don’t think we’ve had a game
like this all year.”
Grey commented more on Linkous.
“For her to come in here on her senior night and do what she did is
phenomenal,” Grey said. “I can’t take any of the credit. She is a
natural talent that works hard on her game. I have 100 wins but I’ve
been blessed with good talent around me.”
Losing by 49, Hawks coach Rodney Saintignon was not available for
comment.
The Hawks junior varsity rolled to a 38-27 victory.
Mississinawa Valley will be at home today with Ft. Recovery while the
Patriots will host Ansonia today in a varsity only game starting at 11
a.m.
