V-Lady Tigers toppled
by Miami East

CASSTOWN- The Versailles Lady Tigers rolled into Casstown Saturday with
visions of a victory over Miami East. Those visions quickly turned into
a nightmare as the Lady Vikings went to 18-1 on the season as
Versailles dropped a 55-36 decision.
Versailles got started in the right direction in the first frame,
holding leads on two different occasions, only to trail 13-11 after
one. At that point, the lights went out and everything went black for
the visiting Tigers.
Held to just six points in the second quarter and four in the third,
Versailles coach Jackie Stonebreaker was not pleased with much after it
was over.
“We can’t put four quarters together that are offensively or
defensively solid for us,” Stonebreaker said. “We looked fine in the
first quarter. We were moving the ball, passing the ball and getting
good shots. In the second quarter, we went cold. I don’t know if we got
tired and our shots weren’t falling but it seems like we were running
girls in and out and it seems they shouldn’t be getting too tired.”
While the Tigers couldn’t buy a bucket, the Vikings were shooting
lights out, netting 13 in the second to hold a 26-17 lead at the break
and added 21 more in the third to blow it open, 47-21.
“Give them credit. They shot very well,” Stonebreaker said of the
Vikings.
It all came down to missed opportunities on offense for Versailles.
“We missed a lot of lay-ups and jumpers that we would normally make,”
Stonebreaker pointed out. “Our two outside shooters weren’t on and they
need to be consistent. “We come out with a loss but there is something
we can learn from this.”
Now 12-6 on the season, the Tigers will battle New Bremen next Thursday.
