NFL
proves
OT policy is a disaster

Of the four
NFL games that were on television this past week-end, I got to see only
one.
The Steelers-Broncos game Sunday. As a Bengals fan, it didn’t break my
heart to
see the Steelers lose that game.
What did
break my heart was the way they lost it.
If that
would have been a Bengals, Vikings or Colts game, and my team lost in
the same
manner the Steelers did, I would be irate.
The NFL
really needs to take a good look at its overtime rules.
When the
game went in to overtime, the rule says that if the team that receives
can
score a touchdown, the game is over or the team that scores the first
touchdown
wins. If a team kicks a field goal, the team on defense has a shot on
offense
to win the game. It also says if the team on defense forces a turnover
and that
team’s offense can score, then the game’s over.
I don’t
like the fact that if the team that goes on defense gives up a
touchdown, then
the game is over.
In the case
of the game Sunday evening, the Steelers lost the coin toss and the
Broncos
took the ball. Denver scored on the first play in overtime and the game
was
over. Pittsburgh never got the ball and never got the chance to do
anything to
win or at least tie the game.
