  Patriots steamroll Jets in Hangar

Linkous and Robins lead their teams

PITSBURG -Two of the premier scoring machines in Darke County took to the floor at The Hangar Thursday as Kayla Linkous and the Lady Patriots came calling on Taylor Robins and the Jets.

Led by Linkous with 28 points, Tri-Village put five in double figures as the Patriots went to 14-1 overall (8-1 CCC) with a 82-49 victory.

With Linkous coming off a 40 point performance against Bradford in her previous outing, Robins has been just as good. Scoring 30 against Newton and 21 Monday against Milton-Union, the Jet junior netted 22 Thursday but had no scoring support from her teammates as the rest of the team could muster just 25 against the Patriots defense.

According to Patriots coach Brad Gray, one of the keys to beating the Jets was the ability to pressure the ball on defense. The Patriots created 20 Franklin Monroe turnovers.

“Our defense was excellent tonight,” said Gray. We did exactly what we needed to do. The press worked well and we were able to take advantage of what our defense gave us.”

On offense, the ball distribution was superb as Teha Richards netted 14, Lexi Bruner 13, Sarah Burns 12 and Echo Brown 11 off the bench to go along with the 28 scored by Linkous.

“I think offensively we’ve been moving the ball extremely well since the Miami East game,” Gray stated. “Tonight, especially early in the first quarter, I thought we were dynamite. Everyone knows what we can do on the inside with the basketball but our jump shooting has been hit and miss this year. We’ve had games where we could shoot with the best of them and nights where it looked like we couldn’t hit the broad side of the barn. We had it clicking tonight.”

From the outside, Lexi Bruner, Brown and Richards all lit it up. Richards had three treys for her efforts.

“It was good to see Lexi get it going tonight,” Gray said. “I don’t know how many she ended up with but it was nice to see her getting it done. Teha and Echo have really got it going for us right now. These two have hit double figures three or four times in a row and if Falknor continues to play with the energy she is playing with and we know what we are going to get from K.J. (Linkous) but all of our kids right now are threats. Sarah Burns goes for a career high tonight so we just clicked. It couldn’t get much better”

Tri-Village jumped out to a huge 17-6 lead after one and never looked back.

Tri-Village will host St. Henry Saturday while Franklin Monroe, 7-12, 5-6, will travel to Ansonia next Thursday.

The Patriots junior varsity won 49-25.
