NEW MADISON- When Tri-Village fell to Franklin Monroe in the
championship game of the Jet Tournament, 47-34, Patriots coach Josh
Sagester left the floor of The Hangar fuming.
After that loss, the Pats had 10 days to think about it and the next
team up would take the wrath of it all. That team was National Trail.
Tri-Village came out breathing fire Friday taking down Trail to the
tune of 83-21 in Cross County Conference play Friday.
“We had a bitter taste in our mouths after that game for 10 days,” said
Sagester. “We didn’t care who was on the other side of that door
tonight, we were going to be ready to play. I’ve been preaching all
week that really good teams come back after a poor performance, ready
to play. Tonight, we found out a lot about ourselves.”
After watching the junior varsity lay the lumber to the Blazers, 71-8,
the varsity laid the whole wood pile on Trail.
“We came out ready. We were focused and we played hard and we didn’t
play down to the level of our competition,” Sagester stated. “We had a
lot of contributions tonight from the whole team.”
Holding a whopping 46-8 lead at the break, Sagester had to preach a
different sermon at half-time.
“It’s tough to stay focused with that kind of a lead,” Sagester said.
“I told them it doesn’t matter if it is 48-8 at the half, we put in a
lot of time over the off-season and we want to see the fruits of our
labor. We wanted to showcase our work tonight and we did,”
With seven days between games, next Friday is the game that will be for
the CCC title as the Patriots go to Miami East.
“It’s going to be electric,” said Sagester. “I was at the
Springboro-Franklin game this past Tuesday and the atmosphere there is
what it’s going to be like next Friday at their place. We are going to
be prepared.”
Tri-Village put four in double figures, led by Kyle Pipenger with 19
points.
Scores from around the county:
Arcanum 54, Franklin Monroe 48
Ft. Recovery 64, Versailles 56
Troy Christian 64, Bradford 45
Miami East 75, Ansonia 42
Twin Valley South 75, Mississinawa Valley 71
