Saturday was a big night for Greenville athletics as three more standout athletes were
inducted into the Wave Hall of Fame. This year the inductees were James (Jim) Koontz
(1968), Paulieanna (Anthony) Tripp (1993) and the late Harry Yingst (1953). Accepting for Yingst

Greenville honors new Hall of Fame members

GREENVILLE - It was another big night for Greenville sports Saturday as the annual Hall of Fame night took place.

Greenville inducted three new members for the 2012 class that now has 89 names in the books.

Paulieanna (Anthony) Tripp, class of 1993, was the first to be introduced to the crowd. Tripp was a standout in cross country and track for Greenville, making it to the state level on many occasions.

James Koontz, class of 1968, starred in basketball and tennis and coached the Lady Wave tennis team in 2011.Koontz was tabbed as coach of the year as the Lady Wave netters were GWOC North Division champions.

Third was the late Harry Yingst, class of 1953. Yingst was a presence on the football field and basketball court. Standing 6-5, Yingst was the second tallest Wave in the history of Greenville sports to date.

Yingst passed away on December 8, 2008 suffering from lung cancer.
