Versailles-Greenville
wrestlers in action tonight

GREENVILLE- Tonight, Greenville and Versailles will once again meet on
the mat to renew its county rivalrey tonight at Greenville High School.
Tonight will mark the 21st time the two schools have gone head to head
with Versailles leading the series 10-8 with two ties.
The series dates back to 1969 but there was a gap 1976-1980 when the
schools never met, as well as 1983-1997. In 1998, the two schools got
it going again, with only one interruption, that coming in 2010 due to
bad weather.
Last year, the Tigers handled Greenville 60-21 but the Wave had won
three of the last four meetings.
More recently, the Wave competed in the Greater Miami Valley
Wrestling Association held at the Nutter Center. Jon Edwards was the
only placer for Greenville. He earned 3rd place and only lost to a
young man who got 3rd in the Georgia State Wrestling Tournament last
year, 5-4.
Jon has also met several benchmarks as far as Greenville Wrestling
Records go:
Jon is 5th in Career Takedowns with 405, passing David Guillozet who
had 355 (95-98). He is 5th in Career Near Falls with 201. He passes
Daniel Edwards who had 190 (07-10), 2nd in Career Tech. Falls
with 44. He passes Daniel Edwards who had 40 (07-10) and Evan Warner
who also had 40 (07-10), 2nd in Career Wins with 134. He passes Daniel
Edwards who had 131 (07-10), Ben Edwards who had 131 (07-10), and Levi
Harris who had 130 (05-08).
The JV Team competed at the Versailles Tournament on 12-27-11. Results
are below.
