Diamond Three to become Lady Wave Stadium

GREENVILLE- Go by Stebbins Field these days and the silence is almost
unnerving. It won’t be that way much longer.
After the summer leagues are completed, diamond three, the home of Lady
Wave Soft Ball (LWSB) will undergo a huge face lift. Plans are in the
making and funds are trying to be raised for the new home of LWSB.
It will still be diamond three with a twist. Soon, it will be known as
Lady Wave Stadium.
“This is going to be huge,” said Wave coach Jerrod Newland. “The first
10 years here have produced a lot of success. Now it’s time to turn the
page and go into the next 10 years. We have a lot of little kids out
there playing softball that will be Lady Wave players and the new
stadium will be something for them to look forward to. This is
something the community of Greenville will be proud of and can hang its
hat on. Wins and losses in the game are icing on the cake, but when we
can give the community something to be proud of, that’s what it’s all
about. When the evolution of Stebbins Complex is complete, it’s going
to be a fun place to eat some popcorn and drink a sprite”
According to Newland, the funding for the new stadium started this past
Wednesday at the awards banquet.
“I’ve had a couple of businesses and a couple of foundations talk to me
about getting onboard for this project,” Newland said. “My goal is to
start turning the dirt on September 1 of this year. My goal is to have
it up in phases starting next fall. Phase one will be the home dugout.
Phase two will be the stadium and phase three will be the visitor’s
dugout. Phase one will also have a locker-room and phase two will
feature a press box.”
Will Lady Wave Stadium be state of the art?
“I don’t think it will be a million dollar set-up like Mason or
Firestone is but it will put Stebbins Complex on the map,” Newland
pointed out. “It will be one of the top five stadiums in the State of
Ohio.”
With a state title, a state runner-up and a final four appearance, as
well as three regional titles and numerous districts and sectional
championships, Newland has put Wave softball among the elite in the
state.
With the first decade in the books, the second decade is about to
unfold.
