Edison
Community College...
Former
UD
Star To Host Edison Fundraiser
March 14, 2012
Former
University of Dayton basketball star and current television sports
analyst
Derrick Dukes will be at the Edison Community College campus Thursday
night to
emcee the school’s annual athletics program fundraiser, the Charger 300.
Dukes,
currently a college basketball analyst for Fox Sports, has also been in
the
broadcast booth for WHIO-TV and Time Warner Regional TV Sports as the
analyst
for the University of Dayton’s basketball team.
Dukes was a
four-year starter at the University of Dayton under former NBA head
coach Jim
O’Brien. In his career, he scored 1,061 points, and remains the only
player in
UD history to lead the team in assists in four consecutive years. He
was the
school’s most valuable player for the 1992-93 season.
The Charger
300 is an annual event that features a reverse raffle with a prize of
$10,000.
The first two years of the event have raised approximately $25,000 to
support
Edison athletics. The funds raised will help provide the opportunity
for the
Charger men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams to
travel and
participate in post season tournaments, and also provide for uniforms
and meals
for players and coaches.
This year’s
event will also help to fund the newly reestablished Edison Club
Baseball Team,
which will begin its season March 22.
Edison’s teams compete in the Ohio
Community College Athletic Conference and are members of the National
Junior
College Athletic Association Division II.
