Awards Banquet...
Versailles
Varsity, JV teams recognized for season finishes
March 13, 2012
The 2011-12
Western Ohio High School Bowling Conference Awards Banquet was held on
March
11th at Romer’s Catering in Celina, Ohio. 3 Professional Bowler’s
Association
Touring Players were in attendance for this years banquet. Chris
Loschetter,
Brian Kretzer, and Joe Ciccone. This was the largest WOHSBC Banquet
with over
650 people in attendance.
The Versailles
Boys Varsity team received a plaque and medals for their 2nd place
finish with
an impressive record of 14-1. 1st Team All Conference Selections from
Versailles were Michael Davidson and Ben Didier. 2nd Team All
Conference
Selections were Kyle Bohman, Nathan Peters and Aaron Niekamp. Michael
Davidson
also received The Daily Advocate’s MVP Boys Bowler for the season.
1st Team
All Conference for the Girls was Megan Monnin. 2nd Team All Conference
selections were Kelsey Berning, Brooke Wehrkamp, Paige Holsapple and
Megan
Ward. Megan Monnin
also received The
Daily Advocate’s MVP Girls Bowler for the season
The Girls
and Boys JV Teams were awarded Plaques and Medals for their 2nd Place
finishes.
The Girls finished at 9-3 and the Boys finished at 10-2. The Girls JV
team also
had the High Team Game of 913 and High Team Series of 2338. Tori
Minnich swept
the 3 categories for High Game, High 2 game Series and High Average
with 268,
456 and 156.53 average for the season.
There were
also many scholarships awarded to Senior Bowlers in the conference.
Anthony
Kennard of Wapakoneta and Jenna Wenning Coldwater were each awarded a
$250
Scholarship donated by the Joe Remaklus family. Joe Remaklus was a long
time
Bowler/Bowling Proprietor in Mercer County. He was the founder of
Miracle Lanes
in Ft. Recovery and Co-Founder of Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater. Joe would
be
awfully proud of all of the great young bowlers bowling today! Joe
passed away
in April 2000.
This year
marked the 5th year that the WOHSBC awarded scholarships. This is made
possible
by the annual golf outing that is held and promoted by PBA Player Brian
Kretzer. This golf outing also runs in conjunction with the PBA Central
Region
Lefeld Implement Classic in August. PBA touring players from around the
country
come to bowl in this event and golf in the fundraiser for the
scholarship fund.
This years event will be held at Stillwater Valley Golf Club in
Versailles on

Graduating
seniors wrote essays on what high school bowling has done for them and
what
their plans are for the future: $4,000 in scholarships were awarded:
$750:
Brooke Bosnango(Parkway) and Alex Seitz(Coldwater), $500: Lauren
Jutte(Minster)
and Joel Hemmelgarn(Versailles), $300: Erica Keysor(St. Marys and Zach
Brannan(Wapakoneta), $200: Casey Feltz(Wapak) and Brandon Batt(Wapak),
$150:
Shelby Rosenbeck(Wapak) and Ben Didier(Versailles), $100: Jenna
Wenning(Coldwater) and Cody Schultz(Wapak)
The WOHSBC also had a great post season.
The Versailles Girls and Boys teams both made it to the District
Tournament in
the Southwest District with the Girl winning their 1st ever Sectional
Title and
the Boys finishing 3rd. Both teams ended up finishing 12th out of 24
teams in
District Competition. Making it to the Boys Districts in the Northwest
were
Coldwater, Wapak, St. Henry and Ottawa Glandorf. For the Girls, it was
Coldwater, St. Marys and Wapak. Coldwater Boys & Girls, Wapak
Boys and St.
Marys girls all qualified for the State Tournament with Coldwater Boys
and
Girls sweeping the state title.
