Blinn returns as hoops coach
Former Lady
Wave goes to MV
By George Starks
GREENVILLE- It’s a role she was born to be in.
Since she was very young, Greenville graduate Macie Blinn and
basketball have always been a part of each other.
After graduation in 2008, Blinn headed to Illinois for collage... and
basketball of course. Now, she’s back in Darke County and will join
forces with Todd Murphy at Mississinawa Valley as the girls junior
varsity basketball coach.
“It’s a good fit for me,” said Blinn in an exclusive interview Tuesday.
“I’m just now kind of getting into the coaching thing and I think Todd
will be a great person to learn from. I think it’s a good start for me.
My family all graduated from there and they are really excited about
this too. I think it’s a great fit for me.”
When asked about the possibility of coaching at Greenville, Blinn did
not hesitate in giving her response.
“No,” said Blinn with a smile. “The job at MV was offered to me a while
ago before I knew about anything else and I gave them my word. I was
never asked to coach here at Greenville.”
As a player, Blinn was bullish on the competition. Now as a coach,
Blinn will see things in a different light. Or will she?
“I’ve learned a lot since my time at Illinois,” Blinn admitted. “You
learn more from a bad situation than you do from the good ones. So I
think this is going to be a great experience for me learning from him
as a coach.”
So what does Blinn think she will bring to the table as a coach vs. a
player?
“I think I can be more relatable,” said Blinn. “If they need to talk,
I’m here for them. I think my experiences at Illinois will be an asset
for them as well.”
Will Blinn be as tough as a coach as she was as a player?
“I don’t know, we will just have to feel that out,” Blinn admitted. “I
think it’s going to be a great experience.”
Blinn was also a big part of the Lady Wave 2007 State Championship
softball team under Jerrod Newland. Blinn was the center-fielder.
