Bruce named NL Player of the week
reds.com

Reds right fielder Jay Bruce, who led the Majors in slugging and total bases last week, was named the National League’s Player of the Week, Major League Baseball announced on Monday afternoon.

Bruce tallied 24 total bases and a 1.143 slugging percentage while also tying for the Major League lead with four home runs. He was second in the NL with 10 RBIs and a .542 on-base percentage for the seven-day period from April 23-29.

It is Bruce’s fourth career Player of the Week honor, having won once in 2010 and twice last year (most recently on Aug. 15).

Bruce helped the Reds to a 6-5 win and series victory against the visiting Astros with a home run on Sunday. It was the lefty’s career-best fourth consecutive game with a home run, just one game shy of the club record (Adam Dunn, Ken Griffey Jr. and Ted Kluszewski).

He drove in four runs on Saturday, with a double and another homer, and collected hits in five of six games last week (including four multihit contests).

Entering Monday’s action, Bruce ranked second in the NL with seven homers and was tied for fifth in the big leagues with 17 RBIs.
