Swisher named
new AD at Greenville
GREENVILLE - It didn’t take the Greenville Board of Education long to
get a replacement for former Athletic Director TJ Powers.
In a decision that took the BOE two hours to decide on in executive
session, it was finally decided that long time Versailles AD, Randy
Swisher would be the new Athletic Director.
This coming on the heels of the board turning down wrestling coach and
assistant football coach, John Shutts.
The new vote was taken after the previously recommended candidate, John
Shutts, was voted down by the BOE last Thursday.
Greenville Superintendent Susie Riegle offered her second
recommendation, although she indicated reluctance to do so, citing the
BOE’s lack of support for the initial recommendation by the select
committee and the superintendent made on the 17th of May, 2012.
According to Riegle, the hiring of Swisher came after a 3-2 split vote,
with BOE President Sue Bowman and board members Fred Matix and Ben
Studebaker voting for Swisher while Cindy Scott and Jim Sommer voting
no.
In a brief discussion with Editor Bob Robinson Wednesday, Matix said
the retiring Versailles AD was an excellent choice and would do a good
job for Greenville.
Swisher, who recently announced his retirement from Versailles said he
was ready to take on the full time job at Greenville and it was an
opportunity he did not want to pass up.
