Wave baseball
suffers big blow
One more setback at Greenville High School
GREENVILLE- It was supposed to be a year when Greenville baseball could
hang its hat on something big. In the final coach’s poll, Greenville
was third in D-II.
The Wave (14-8) was looking forward to a Thursday night sectional title
game with Tipp City after thumping Ben Logan 8-0 recently.
A win over Tipp would give the Wave a sectional title and the right to
move on the district round. A season to remember turned in to a season
to forget.
Due to the use of an eligible player, Greenville was forced to give up
its right to play for the sectional crown but also was forced to
forfeit all 2012 wins.
Greenville Athletic Director TJ Powers took all responsibility for the
problem, stating he was sad for the kids.
“I’m disappointed in myself and very sad for the kids,” said Powers. “I
can’t even say I’m sorry because it goes further than that. This is
devastating for them and when the news was told to them, they were very
upset. I can’t say how bad I feel for them.”
Instead of Greenville playing Tipp City for the sectional title, Ben
Logan was reinstated to play the Red-Devils last night.
