ARLINGTON, Texas- The Cleveland Browns registered seven sacks for 56
lost yards in Sunday’s 23-20 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys in
front of 81,936 fans at Cowboys Stadium Sunday afternoon.
It was their most sacks in a single game this season, one more than
they registered in a 34-27 loss at the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 16,
and the most since the Browns sacked Ben Roethlisberger eight times in
a 13-6 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 10, 2009.
“We felt like, if we had any chance of affecting the outcome of the
game, especially getting after Romo, we had to put pressure on him,”
Browns coach Pat Shurmur said. “I thought, at times in the game, and
really throughout the game, we were able to get home and I think that’s
very important for us moving forward.”
Defensive linemen Ahtyba Rubin, Frostee Rucker, Juqua Parke, John
Hughes and Jabaal Sheard each registered sacks, while linebacker Craig
Robertson also collected a tackle behind the line of scrimmage on Romo.
Defensive back Usama Young and linebacker Kaluka Maiava combined their
efforts on a sack of Romo that resulted in a seven-yard loss in the
third quarter.
Sunday’s game was Rubin’s first after he missed three of the last four
due to an injured calf muscle.
In addition to the pressure on Romo, the Browns held the Cowboys to
four of 14 in third-down situations and 63 yards rushing.
