Thanksgiving… then Hoops
Hoops is right
around the corner
By George Starks
DARKE COUNTY - With fall sports being in the books for 2012, it means
only one thing.
Basketball season is upon us.
The girls season will officially kick-off the day after Thanksgiving as
several teams will hit the hardwood.
The annual Bill Burkett will feature four area teams as Tri-Village
will host Franklin Monroe, Ansonia and Arcanum.
Also on that Friday night, Greenville and Versailles will play at
Celina in the annual OVISCO Tournament.
Mississinawa Valley will open its season on December 8 at home with the
Northeastern Knights while Bradford will open on December 1 at home
with defending Cross County Conference rival, Miami East.
There are many questions that will be answered on that first Friday
night.
In New Madison, the biggest question is what will life on the hardwood
be without Kayla Linkous? Can the Lady Patriots be as strong as they
were a year ago? The biggest question that will be answered for the
Pats will come on December 27 at Miami East.
Unless there is a total meltdown at Tri-Village that could very well be
the game that will determine the conference champions.
In Arcanum, Rachel Ferron will be in her second year with the Trojans.
Ferron will have a huge return on the floor and will look to Abby
O’Donnell, among other, to lead this team to success.
The Trojans will get a stiff test at the Burkett when they take on
Franklin Monroe.
The Jets had periods of success a year ago but there’s much room for
improvement on a seven win season from a year ago.
Ansonia has nowhere to go but up. With a disaster of season due to a
coach that walked out after four games, the Tigers will look to get
things back on the right track and will look to do it against
Tri-Village.
The Patriots are looking to defend their title in that tournament.
In Versailles, Jackie Stonebreaker will go to Celina for the OVISCO
Tournament along with Greenville.
The Wave will look for improvement from a year ago while the Tigers
will be a thorn in any teams side in 2012-13. Don’t be surprised if
Versailles walks out with a tournament title.
Week one of girls hoops promises to bring out some much needed answers
and the date on the calendar is November 23, 2012.
Nothing Black about this Friday.
It’s time for some hoops.
As for me, I will be in New Madison for the Burkett.
It's traditional for me.
