Lady Trojans
season ends at sectional
Anna proves to be too much
By George Starks
BROOKVILLE- At the time of the sectional volleyball draw, both Anna and
Arcanum had nearly identical records.
The Trojans were 12-6 while the Rockets were sporting a 12-8 mark.
The difference being the caliber of competition.
While the Trojans play in the Cross County Conference, the Rockets are
in the very tough Shelby County League, playing teams like Ft. Loramie,
Russia and Houston, to name just a few.
Saturday, Arcanum took the court against Anna and the Rockets proved to
be a little too much for the Trojans.
Anna rolled to a 3-0 victory, taking the games by scores of 25-15,
25-17 and 25-10.
"I think we played great," said Arcanum coach Terri Day. "We have a
great foe in Anna and they threw everything they had at us, for sure."
Down 2-0, Arcanum looked to force a fourth game, going up 5-2 early
before the Rockets took time to talk things over.
When play resumed, Anna went to work, reeling off seven unanswered
points to go up 9-4 before the Trojans could break serve.
At that point, Arcanum would muster just six more points, four through
the offense through serving efforts from senior Lauren Snyder.
"We came out and took it to them, especially in the third game" said
Day. "This is a great group of seniors and they gave it their best
shot. I hate to see it end like this but I would rather go out fighting
than to get blown away and not play up to their potential. The played
well."
With the loss, the Trojans went to 15-7 overall.
"We had a great year," said Day. "The kids played well together and
they all played different roles. We were able to sub a lot and that
helped us in a lot of matches."
Day will lose five seniors, Allison Dill, Morgan Buck, Katie Harman,
Brooke Allen and Snyder, to graduation in the spring.
