Lady Jets play
tough in sectional loss
MV topples Yellow Springs
By George Starks
PIQUA-If games were played on paper and seasonal records meant
anything, the Franklin Monroe and Triad might still be slugging it out.
However, that is not the case.
With both the Jets and Cardinals sporting nearly identical records, it
was Triad the advanced to the sectional final Monday, scoring a 25-18,
25-17, 25-17 victory at Piqua.
"Triad had a real scrappy defense," said Jets coach Jodi Bauman. "We
were slow on our feet and our defense wasn't as fast and precise as
it's been in the past. I don't know if it was nerves or not. I've only
had a couple that have ever played in a tournament game so we are a
young team. My offense wasn't as strong as it usually is either."
In all three games, the Jets were able to take early leads but could
never keep that advantage.
Bauman gave Triad the credit.
"They had a couple of servers that made it hard to serve-receive, so
our passes weren't getting up there" admitted Bauman. "In the third
game, we started to come out and we were digging up a lot of their
tips."
With only a handful of wins, the Jets have made huge strides from a
year ago.
"We've come a long way," Bauman said. "We are a young team with a huge
amount of potential. We started out trying to figure out how everyone
works on the floor. I'm really pleased with how much we have developed.
Now that we are done with this year, I look forward to next year and I
will tweak a few things and that will go a long way. I lose three
seniors and that helps. We played well and all we can go is up."
Franklin Monroe ends the 2012 season with a 6-15 mark.
In one other game of interest, Mississinawa Valley was able to topple
Yellow Springs in five in the Tipp City sectional, 25-27, 25-20, 23-25,
25-22, 15-12.
The Hawks will go up against Twin Valley South tonight. Game time is
set for 7:30 p.m.
