BRADFORD - It was a game that was billed as the game of the week in
Darke County.
It turned out to be anything but a game.
After it was all said and done, the 3-0 Bradford Railroaders fell to
3-1 while the Covington Bucc remained undefeated at 4-0, rolling to a
lopsided 56-6 Cross County Conference victory.
Covington took the opening drive of the night, scoring to make it 7-0.
Bradford answered when James Canan busted through for a 63 yarder and
the score. The PAT failed and the Roaders trailed 7-6.
By the end of the opening frame, Covington had scored three more times
and twice more in the second. At the break, the Buccs held a commanding
42-6 lead and the rout was on.
Bradford was never able to stop the Covington assault, as the Buccs
rolled up 517 yards of total offense on the night.
Canan, who was named the Ohio National Guard and the JJ Huddle Player
of the Week, last week, carried the ball 17 times, gaining 131 yards
with the lone Roader score.
Despite the Buccs dominating the offensive and defensive line of
scrimmage, James Canan made a few big runs to gain 131 yards on 17
carries for the game.
Huddle is the premier sports website in Ohio. Canan was recognized for
his performance the week before against National Trail where he rushed
for 455 yards on 32 carries the 10th best single game rushing
performance ever in the State of Ohio. And his 7 TD’s was one shy of
tying a state record.
In 4 games this year Canan has rushed for an incredible 1,114 yards on
101 carries for an average of 11 yards per carry and 16 touchdowns.
Bradford will look to get back on the winning track next week when the
Roaders will travel to Ansonia to tangle with the Tigers for the second
time this season. In the opening game of the year at Bradford, the
Roaders won 48-12.
Currently, Ansonia is 0-4 after losing to National Trail Friday, 51-28.
