NEW PARIS - In a game that was postponed Friday and rescheduled for
Saturday at 7 pm, three and a half hours and 102 points later Bradford
came up with a solid 61-41 victory over National Trail.
While the Roaders gained the victory, it was not one that came easy for
Bradford.
The Trail Blazers started the scoring in the first with 8:57 to go,
7-0. Nine plays later on a 34 yd James Canan run, the Railroaders were
on the board and a two point conversion score put them in the lead 8-7.
The scoring was limited in the first quarter… just warming up?
Trail took the lead back in the second with a quick score, going up
14-8 but that didn’t last long as Bradford scored on a 73 yd run by
Canan. Brandon Wysong's PAT was good, score 15-14. Just as you blinked
an eye the Blazers were up again 21-15 but Railroaders came right back
putting together a drive and scored before the half, PAT was good with
the score 22-21 Bradford.
The Railroaders received the ball to start the second half and seven
plays later were in the end zone, score 29-21.
Trail went on the attack and seven plays later, closed the gap to a
29-27 count.
The Railroaders were back in the end zone again with 3 plays and the
score was 35-21. This was possibly the turning point in the game with a
Cline interception and another nice run by Canan and the score
ballooned to 42-21.
Just when the Railroaders looked to be in control, Trail’s backup
quarterback, on his first play from scrimmage threw an 80 yd bomb over
the middle for a Blazer TD score 42-34.
Bradford moved the ball down the field to start the quarter. Wysong
connected on a 50 yd completion to Cassel and Cline finished up with a
TD score 48-34. Trail would not go away, 8 plays and they scored again,
48-41.
Take a breath and BOOM-BOOM Railroaders 54-41. The Railroader defense
held the Blazers and took over on downs. The Railroaders finally put it
away with a 23 yard Corey Rench blast to make the final score 61-41.
James Canan broke school rushing record 455 yards in 42 carries, 7
touchdowns.
Bradford will host Covington next week before going to Ansonia for the
Tigers homecoming.
Ansonia falls at
South
Lewisburg- For the first time since 1999, the Twin Valley South
Panthers were able to upend Ansonia.
In Cross County Conference action, the Panthers had to hold off a
stubborn bunch of Tigers to gain a 46-40 victory.
The Tigers had a huge chance with 1:05 remaining in the game to gain no
less than a tie.
Gaining control of the ball at the 2:10 mark of the fourth quarter, the
Tigers would start their drive only to see it come to an end after
Ansonia quarterback Caleb Earick would gain a first down in a third and
10 situation.
Earick would hit seven of 13 in the passing department, including a 70
yard score to Jordan Newman and another pass to Dustin Verger, this one
of 38 yards.
The Panthers held a 24-8 lead after one and 30-22 at the break.
The Tigers continued to hold their own through the third stanza but was
not able to overcome the Panthers in the end.
The Tigers dropped to 0-3 on the season and will host National Trail
next Friday.

loss to Lebanon
GREENVILLE- The Lebanon Warriors rolled into Greenville Friday, looking
to do battle with Greenville.
When it was all said and done, the Wave fell to 0-3 on the season
Saturday, dropping a 35-13 decision to Lebanon.
The highlight of the game came in the fourth quarter when Ryan Eldridge
busted a 98 yard run for the score after gaining possession of the ball
on a loss of downs situation.
The run by Eldridge is the longest in modern day history at Greenville
and it got the Wave on the scoreboard.
After the Warriors scored midway through the final frame, the Wave
countered at the five minute mark on another score from Eldridge.
The Wave will host the West Carrolton Pirates next Friday.
