Tri-Village
wins slugfest over FM
By George Starks
PITSBURG- Coming into Thursday's confrontation with Franklin Monroe,
Tri-Village had a solid 10-2 seasonal mark.
On the flip side, the host Jets were nearly the exact opposite,
sporting a dismal 3-7 mark.
So much for records.
It was a classic TV-FM dogfight Thursday and when the final point was
recorded, the Patriots had won a hard fought match, 25-20, 25-23 and
25-18.
"I'm thrilled we won," said Patriots coach Jackie Barnes. "We played
good enough to win but we didn't play great."
For Jets coach Jody Bauman, the reaction was quite the opposite.
"We played hard and gave it all we had," said Bauman. "I'm not happy
that we lost but I am happy with the way we played. We were down 20-11
in one game and we rallied back."
On a night when it looked as if it could have gone five games, a four
game match was in the making in the second game.
Trailing by as much as 22-12, the Jets started their comeback and had
closed to a 24-23 count.
“We were never able to put them away,” said Barnes. “We hustled but we
never played with the same intensity that we had Tuesday against
Mississinawa Valley.”
Despite losing, Bauman had nothing but high praise for her team and the
Patriots.
“TV is a scrappy bunch,” said Bauman. “I wish we could have played a
little better. If we had, we might have won this. Our offense was good
but our kill percentage could have been better. We missed a few key
serves. We didn’t execute at times but overall, we played hard and we
hustled. We hit the floor for balls and our net play was decent.”
Reah Mikesell led the Pats with 17 points (seven aces), 17 digs and 22
assists. Senior Liz Collins had 18 digs at her libero position.
Freshman Morgan Booher led the Jets with six blocks.
