VERSAILLES
- After a sloppy showing a week ago in Celina, falling to the Bulldogs
46-26, the Versailles Tigers (1-1) got things on the right track Friday
at H.B. Hole Field.
It was a night of old fashioned Versailles football as the Tigers took
the Graham Falcons to the cleaners, rolling to a 40-7 non-conference
victory
It was a night when the Falcons never got on track while the Tigers
offense and defense got some much needed jump starts. While the Graham
offense struggled during the first 24 minutes, the Tigers could not be
stopped, rolling up a whopping 33-0 lead by the break.
Versailles got things going in the second frame when Mike Rutshilling ran in from six yards out.
The Tigers scored early in the second quarter when they partially
blocked a Falcon punt that saw Mitch Gigandet pick it up and take it to
the Falcon 14 yard line. Jacob Paulus scored two plays later on a five
yard run, the extra point would hit the crossbar but the Tigers had a
13-0 lead they would not relinquish.
It was a big night for Damien Richard. Richard returned multiple punts,
giving the Tigers excellent field position on the night. One punt,
Richard returned 40 yards, setting Nick Campbell up for a 20 yard
scamper.
As a quarterback, Campbell would throw a 25 yard touchdown to Kyle Dieringer, giving Versailles a 27-0 advantage.
Graham took possession but it was short lived when Jacob Paulus would
record the first score of the season for the defense when he would get
a 20 yard pick six for the Tigers.
Versailles would get its final score of the night in the second half on a six yard pass from Campbell to Dieringer.
Tiger coach Adam Miller will enjoy his first victory for a short period
of time as he will look to week three and a showdown with MAC foe,
Coldwater.
Noting the game against Coldwater, Miller said the team still has room for improvement.
Game kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 and the Tigers will look to go to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the MAC.
