Manning scores
hat trick in FM victory
By George Starks
PITSBURG - Coming off a loss to Stebbins, the Greenville Lady Wave
rolled into Pitsburg Tuesday looking for their first win of the 2012
soccer season.
Franklin Monroe was coming off a tie with Newton and wanted to get back
on the winning side of the standings.
Give the nod to the Lady Jets.
It was a night when the Jets played with fervor and FM coach Scott
Howell knew it.
"Our goal today was to come out and play with passion. That was the
word of the day, passion," said Howell. "We played with the passion we
needed to play with."
After Claire Neiswander had put Franklin Monroe up 1-0 with 26:44
remaining in the opening half, with an assist from Allyson Manning, it
was Manning that put everything on ice.
Manning would score three more goals in the first half, getting the hat
trick, and giving the Lady Jets soccer team a 4-0 victory over the Wave.
"She played hard tonight and she earned it," Howell said of Manning.
"It took her a little while to get started but once she did, she played
well."
Holding a 4-0 lead at the break, Howell seized the opportunity to play
his subs. Going with his starters for the opening 10 minutes of the
second half, Howell sent his bench in for the final 30 minutes of play.
"We played our subs the last 30 minutes and they did a great job,"
Howell pointed out. "All these girls that I sent in are freshman and
they are doing a great job."
With the victory, Franklin Monroe went to 2-0-1 on the year but Howell
gave credit to the Wave.
"Coach Gonzalez has a solid program over there, he's just got some
injuries to a few key players and that's hurting him," said Howell.
"Any team can have a great night or a bad night on any given night.
Tonight, we had a great night. A win over Greenville is awesome because
they always have a decent program. This is a fantastic rivalry. Last
year, we played to a tie. It's great to play the bigger schools when we
can. I love it."
It was another stellar night for senior goalie Allison Snider. Last
week, Snider was in double digits in saves against Newton.
Tuesday, the Jet senior came up huge in the win over Greenville.
"The team wanted to preserve the shut-out for Allison tonight. Her
grandfather passed away earlier this week so she was playing with a
heavy heart," said Howell. "It was an emotional game but Allison played
well tonight."
The Jets will play at home tonight in a Cross County Conference game
with Miami East while the Wave will play at Celina Saturday.
Coach Gonzalez was not available for comment after the game for
Greenville.
