Greenville too much for Brookville Wave now 10-2 overall
By George Starks
GREENVILLE- The Greenville Lady Wave tennins team made quick work of
Brookville Wednesday, sending the Blue-Devils down to a 4-1 defeat.
Now 10-2 overall, losing to Milton-Union and Miamisburg earlier in the
season, Wave coach Jim Koontz is pleased with the performance of his
team thus far.
"I am really happy with the way the girls are playing
right now," said Koontz in a phone interview. "We are 10-2 and these
kids have really stepped up and got the job done. I think what makes it
better is the fact they are having fun out there and they are doing
exactly what's asked of them. I can't be happier."
The biggest match of the night came in the third singles match with Wave freshman Raquel Navis-Davis.
After beating her opponent 6-2 in the first set, she was
forced to go the distance in the second set before posting a 7-5
victory.
"She has some tendonitis issues and it was bothering her
tonight," said Koontz. "The doctor said she grew too fast and that's
what brought it on."
The lone loss of the night came in the first doubles as Alexis Medley and Alex Myers fell 6-4, 6-1.
With the number one and two singles players receiving top honors recently, Koontz admits he has some very special players.
"These kids work hard," said Koontz. "They play a lot in
the off season and they stick with it and it's paid off for them. Last
year, Brookville played us tough and it went to the wire. So the
results of their work are there."
The Wave will be idle until Monday when they face Wayne at
4 p.m. Over the next week, the Wave will host Wayne, Piqua, Springfield
and Xenia. All GWOC schools.
Wednesday's Results:
Sophia Navas Davis (G) defeated Cera 6-2, 6-0
