Reds belt trio
of homers to win Opening Series
CINCINNATI- The Reds hit three home runs but had to hold on for another
close game as they earned a 5-4 win over the Angels on Thursday
afternoon.
After dropping the season opener in 13 innings, Cincinnati took the
final two games of the series -- both times by one run.
Facing Angels starter Joe Blanton, the Reds led off each of the first
two innings with home runs to take a 2-0 lead. On Blanton's first
pitch, Shin-Soo Choo went to the opposite field to hit his first long
ball as a Red -- and sixth leadoff homer of his career -- with a drive
to left-center field.
Starting Cincinnati's half of the second inning, Todd Frazier sent a
1-2 Blanton pitch into the left-field seats for his first homer of the
season.
The Angels evened the game with two runs in the third inning against
starter Bronson Arroyo. Albert Pujols' first hit of the season, a
double to left field, put runners on second and third base. Josh
Hamilton followed with his first hit and RBIs of the year when his
single scored Erick Aybar and Pujols.
In the Reds' fourth, Frazier just missed his second homer with a drive
off of the yellow line at the top of the left-center-field wall.
Frazier was credited with a double and reached third base when Mike
Trout bobbled the ball for an error. The play was reviewed via video
replay when the Reds thought Frazier might have homered, but the
original call was upheld…
