Tri-Village wins classic battle
Trojans off to 0-3 start
By George Starks

NEW MADISON - It was a classic battle on the volleyball court Tuesday in New Madison.

It was a night when the immoveable force (Tri-Village) met the irresistible object (Arcanum).

The Trojans brought in the likes of seniors Abby O’Donnell and Brooklyn Baker while the Patriots countered with Krystal Falknor, Heather Ferris and Raya Mikesell.

In a non-conference match, the Lady Trojans and Patriots duked it out to the final point and in the end, it was the Immoveable object winning three highly contested games, 26-24, 25-21, 25-20.

With the win, the Patriots went to 2-1 on the season but T-V coach Becca Rother, felt very fortunate to get the victory.

“”I felly very fortunate,” said Rother. “I have a group of girls that play hard and couldn’t ask for a better group of girls.”

In all three games, the Patriots were forced to come from behind to gain the three game match win.

Trailing 23-21 in the opener, Tri-Village forced the Trojans into overtime, going on a 5-1 run to take the two point victory.

In the second game of the contest, the Trojans jumped out to the early lead and held a 20-16 advantage at one point.

Determined to protect The Battleground, the Patriots once again went on a run of 9-1 to gain the victory.

Game three was a see-saw battle as the Pats were able to hold off a stubborn bunch of Trojans, winning 25-20.

Although the Patriots were down on several occasions, they were never out of the match as Tri-Village showed it resiliency in the end.

“I already knew they were fighters but I learned a lot about my kids tonight,” said Rother. “Volleyball is a game of momentum and after we comeback and won the first match, that was a huge momentum builder for us. It showed the mental status of these kids and I couldn’t be happier.”

With the loss, the Trojans fell to 0-3 on the season and long time head coach Terri Day knows there is work to be done.

“I saw a lot of good things out there tonight,” said Day. “I also saw a lot of things that need improved on. Our communication lacked and wee needed crucial serves to be made at crucial times.”

Even though it was not a CCC match, Day admitted there are things that need work and it will be a while before the two teams hook up again.

Tri-Village will host Covington tonight in a CCC match while the Trojans will tangle with Bradford Saturday at home in a 10 a.m. start.
