Greenville gets first victory on the young season
Wave put five in double figures
By George Starks

GREENVILLE- After suffering a disappointing loss at Miamisburg Friday night in the 2014 season opener, Greenville put its ship on the right track Saturday.

The Wave put five in double figures, with sophomore Clay Guillozet leading the way with 16 points, as Greenville went to 1-1 on the young season posting a 64-47 victory over Ft. Recovery Saturday.

Even though the Wave rolled up plenty of points on offense, it was the defense that shined for the Wave.

After falling behind 11-8 with less than two minutes left on the first quarter clock, Greenville coach Mike Bayshore, called a time out.

At that point, the Wave defense took control.

“When we can hold a team to 14 points in the first half, especially a good shooting team like them, we are real proud of that,” said Bayshore. “We’ve come a long way in a year with just our man to man defense. I was real pleased.”

Not only did the Wave defense hold the Indians to 14 points in the first 16 minutes, Greenville put the clamps on the Tribe in the third quarter as well.

At the end of the third, Greenville held a commanding 40-21 lead with the final stanza left to be played.

While the defense was making its statement, Greenville controlled the boards and was able to get out and run on the Indians in transition.

With Guillozet knocking down 16 points for the Wave, Greenville had four others in double figures in points in support of Guillozet with Allen Tabler knocking down 14 points, mot coming in the first half.

Senior Ryan Drew chipped in with a dozen while Zach Comer and Aaron Balsbaugh had 10 each with Balsbaugh coming down in double figures with 11 boards.

“We shot the ball a lot better than we did last night and we preach that,” said Bayshore. “A lot of teams are going to focuse on Clay and there has to be others step up. Tonight, Allen stepped up and took control in the first half and that opened things up in the second half for clay because their defense was made to play a little more honestly. We had five kids in double figures tonight so we had everyone chipping in tonight.”

If there is one thing a coach detests, its turnovers.

Greenville recorded only seven miscues on the night against the Tribe.

A pleasing number to Bayshore.

“We have really strong guard play,” said Bayshore. “We have guards that are really smart with the basketball. We welcome anybody that wants to try to press us.”

Greenville, 1-1, will tangle with Fairmont on the road next Friday.
