Pick for January
Richards,
Roberts our January Athletes of the Month
By George Starks
The January Athletes of the Month are both seniors that are having
stellar seasons.
Tri-Village, through the month of January, went 17-1 and currently at
19-1 overall with its lone loss coming at the hands of Miami East.
A large part of that success can be credited to the outstanding play of
Teha Richards.
The Patriots went undefeated in the month and Richards averaged double
digit points per game, helping to lead the Patriot cause.
More recently, Richards netted 31 in a game against Lehman Catholic to
help lead the Patriots to an 84-39 victory.
On the boys side of the ledger, Greenville wrestler Nelson Roberts
stands at the front of the winter pack of athletes.
In action recently at Washington Courthouse in the Miami Trace
Invitational, Roberts finished second in the 138 pound class on a day
when the Wave would finish next to last as a team, 17th out of 18 teams.
More recently, Roberts picked up two more wins over Piqua and Troy.
Roberts just passed Jerrod Depoy to become 14th on the all time senior
wins list with a 36-8 mark as a senior.
Roberts is 10th for Best Career Record at 115-57, passing Karl Schinke
who was 113-40.
Roberts is 4th for Escapes in a Career with 132, passing Ben Stacy who
had 125 (1993-96) & Zach Stull who had 127 (2008-11).
In addition, the Wave senior is tied for 5th in decisions with 53. He
is currently tied with Levi Harris (2005-2008.)
