Patriots clinch
CCC title with win over Ansonia
NEW MADISON- The Tri-Village Patriots clinched a share of the Cross
County Conference title Friday when the Patriots dismantled Ansonia
97-36.
Getting out of the gate quickly, the Patriots were flexing their muscle
early and often.
Led by Kyle Pipenger's 11 and Tyler Cook's eight first quarter points,
Tri-Village cruised to a 23-7 lead with eight minutes in the books.
By the end of the opening half, the only thing left to be determined
was the final score as the Patriots were well in command, holding a
53-14 advantage.
Now 18-0 and 11-0 in the Cross County Conference, the Patriots will win
the conference outright with a victory over Newton on Friday, February
15 in Pleasant Hill.
Pipenger finished with 29 to lead the way while Cook chipped in 18 to
support the effort.
A loss, coupled with a Franklin Monroe victory over Covington next
Friday and Bethel a week later will give the Patriots a share of the
title as FM is currently 9-1 in the conference.
Including Friday night's victory, the Patriots have won the title eight
times, sharing it on four occasions. The last time T-V won it outright
was 1991, the year the Patriots finished as the runner-up to St. Henry
in the state finals.
Hawks get wings
clipped in Covington
COVINGTON- On a night when nothing went right for Mississinawa Valley,
the Blackhawks walked away from the floor in Covington, licking their
wounds after a 65-38 loss to the Buccs.
Mississinawa Valley jumped out to a 5-0, first quarter lead before the
Buccaneers opened the guns to the ship and blasted out an 11-0 run to
take a 15-5 lead and a 15-9 lead after one.
The Hawks would win the third quarter by a single point but would never
see another lead the rest of the way, trailing 52-27 after three.
