FM holds off
stubborn Cedarville team
Troy- It may not have been the best outing of the season by Franklin
Monroe, but sometimes your best isn’t always needed.
Such was the case Saturday night as the Franklin Monroe Jets held off a
stubborn bunch from Cedarville, 54-40, to advance to the second round
of the sectional tournament Wednesday and a date with Southeastern.
Holding a comfortable 16-9 lead after one quarter of play, the Indians
scored eight of the opening nine points of the second quarter, gaining
a 17-17 tie.
Devon Fourman drained a three and Marcus Horner hit a pair from the
charity stripe, giving the Jets the lead.
Cedarville stormed back, closing the gap to 22-21 at the half.
Franklin Monroe outscored its opponent, 20-10 to open it up in the
third frame before going on to post the 14 point victory.
Junior Trey Mong led the way for the Jets with 19 points while Fourman
added 11 and Zach Hyre 10 in support.
The scheduled tip time for the Jets is 8 pm.
Mong led Franklin Monroe with 19 points in the game while Fourman
scored 11, Hyre scored 10, Horner scored six, Feitshans scored four,
Martin Maksvytis scored two, and Kayle Oswalt scored two.
Cedarville keyed on Feitshans, Franklin Monroe’s leading scorer on the
season, all night, but the Jets had other players step up.
“It’s a collective effort,” Myers said. “When you get in the
tournament, that’s going to happen. They’re going to try to take our
good players away. Honestly, we don’t have just one good player, and
that’s the thing that I love about this team. You key on guy, we’re
just going to find a another guy to go at, and fortunately it worked
out for us.”
With the win, Franklin Monroe advances to play Southeastern at 8 p.m.
Wednesday at Troy High School.
“I’m just proud of their resiliency,” Myers said of his players.
“Obviously it wasn’t a great game to watch for our fans, but we did
what we had to do to win, and we’ll get back at it Wednesday.”
