Bradford football coach Curtis Enis has been named The Marvin Lewis
Community Fund 2012 Coach of the Year.
The Marvin Lewis Community Fund Coach of the Year Award is presented to
a high school football coach in the Greater Cincinnati region. The
winner is chosen based on teaching skills, sportsmanship, dedication to
players on and off the field and commitment to education.
Coach Enis is no stranger to the game. In 1993, he was named Mr.
Football of Ohio, in 1997 was NCAA All-American at Penn State also
finishing 6th in the Heisman Trophy Award voting for the year. In 1998
was the 5th overall pick in the NFL draft by the Chicago Bears and is
now taking all of those talents and instilling them into the young men
of Bradford High School. Since taking over the Bradford football
program in 2010, he has brought back the rich tradition and sense of
football pride back to Bradford:
• Brought the football roster up from 18 players to 30
• Has had 2 running backs in three years rush for over 2,000 yards
• Led his team to the Division VI State Playoffs for the first time in
30 years (1982)
• His players set several school and OHSAA state records individually
and as a team In a small community of roughly 1,800. Coach Enis side by
side with his staff and players are involved in several community
related activities. From setting up and tearing down festivals to
helping the local funeral home unload shipments, as well as during the
holidays delivering food and gifts to under-privileged families in the
community. In 2011, Coach Enis and the football team started an annual
5K Run to honor a former Bradford Railroader that passed away on the
field. The proceeds from this event go towards the Chad Nolan
Scholarship Fund.
Coach Enis focuses on teaching these young men life lessons that will
go much further than football. The values of work ethic, support,
determination, pride, heart, effort, attitude, family and, most
importantly, they are students first and athletes second.
• Implemented an after school study table program during football season
• Requires his players to give weekly updates on current grades
• Graduation rate with student-athletes has never been an issue. Every
player has graduated.
When the Athletic Director was asked to describe Coach Enis in three
words he said “Leadership, Motivator and Family.”
His philosophy of “One Team, One Family, One Heartbeat”, has brought a
new foundation to a faltering program. His guidance is changing lives
of every young man he coaches.
Coach Enis graduated from Mississinawa Valley High School and continued
his education at The Kiski School in Saltsburg, Pa., for one year, then
moved on to Penn State University. He currently is completing his
undergraduate degree at Central State University where he is majoring
in Recreation/Education. Coach Enis and his wife Michelle have six
children; Bree 16, Mandi 14, Samson 14, Solomon 13, Wesley 7 and
Whitney who is 4 years old.
