V-Tigers fall from the unbeaten ranks
St. Henry too much for Tigers
Tri-Village boys remain undefeated

ST. HENRY- If there’s one thing most teams in the MAC don’t need, its
inspiration.
That is exactly what St. Henry got Friday night before its game with
Versailles.
With both teams coming in undefeated in the conference, The Redskin
faithful and team were honoring its past state champions, including the
2004 team that beat Versailles for the state title.
It was made apparent right from the start of the game; St. Henry was on
a mission. By the end of the opening eight minutes, the mission
statement was obvious; Take no prisoners.
Leading by as much as 12-2 in the opening frame, the Redskins were
pouring it on right from the beginning and posted a 68-53 loss on
Versailles.
“We got down early and it seemed like being in the big atmosphere and a
big game like tonight, I thought we were never able to get in a good
defensive position,” said Scott McEldowney. “I thought we took a big
step in the right direction last week and tonight, we reverted back. We
were chasing them around and weren’t helping on screens. We were
playing a little too tight on our guys at times. We take the philosophy
that the team that gets the most easy baskets wins games and St. Henry
got a bunch of them tonight.”
It was a night when the St. Henry offense would click, with many first
half points being created by the Redskin defense.
At the break, the Skins were in control, 30-18.
On the night, the Tigers would shoot a paltry, 38 percent from the
field, led by sophomore Kyle Ahrens with 22 points.
“It’s obvious, we need some work,” admitted McEldowney. “We are nowhere
near where we need to be. We thought we could take advantage of some
good matches outside and we didn’t. They executed and we didn’t. Our
shot selection was poor.”
Of the 18 points scored, the Tigers knocked down 10 of 14 shots from
the line, keeping the halftime deficit at a dozen.
In one other game of interest, the Tri-Village Patriots marched into
National Trail; they walked over the Blazers, 81-20 in Cross County
Conference action. Shade Brubaker lit up Trail for 34 points to lead
all scorers. Tri-Village is now 11-0 on the season.
