Davis doing
well in AZL
SURPRISE, Ariz. — Greenville native Tripp Davis is off to a strong
start in his first month of professional baseball, posting a 2.45 ERA
for the AZL Royals.
Davis, a left handed pitcher, has pitched in eight games for the Royals
including one start and seven relief appearances in his first month
with the team. In 18.1 innings on the mound, he has a 2-1 record and
two saves with 14 hits given up, four walks allowed and 12 strikeouts.
The 2009 Greenville High School graduate made his professional debut
with the Royals, a Rookie Arizona League affiliate of the Kansas City
Royals, one June 21 against the AZL Rangers.
He pitched one inning in relief that day, allowing one run off a solo
home run. He also struck out two batters in the game to earn his first
professional save.
Davis gave up two unearned runs on June 23 against the AZL Mariners in
three innings on the mound. He then pitched three scoreless innings
each against the AZL Dodgers and AZL Brewers, striking out a
professional career high five batters and earning a save against the
Brewers.
One July 7, Davis gave up a run against the AZL Giants in one inning on
the mound. He gave up three hits and two walks in that game.
Davis made his first professional start July 10 against the AZL Reds.
In 4.1 innings, he gave up three runs on seven hits, one walk and one
strikeout.
The Greenville alumnus then pitched a scoreless inning July 17 against
the Rangers and two scoreless innings July 21 against the AZL Angels.
As a team the Royals are 10-16 so far this season, which puts them
fourth out of four teams in the Arizona League West division standings.
They trail the Rangers by five games in the division.
Davis played collegiately for the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
He signed with the Royals in June as an undrafted free agent.
