NASCAR coming to Eldora tonight
ROSSBURG- For the first time in 42 years, NASCAR will return to a dirt track with Eldora Speedway serving as the host.
Festivities for the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Eldora are set to begin today and continue through Wednesday night, with the 150-lap Mudsummer Classic set to begin at 9:35 p.m.
Wednesday’s race will mark NASCAR’s first race on dirt since Sept. 30, 1970, when Richard Petty won a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, N.C. It also will be the first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race contested on a dirt track.
Spectator gates for the festivities are scheduled to open at 1 p.m. today. Today’s activities include a Chevrolet driver question and answer sessions with Ty Dillon, Brennan Newberry, Ron Hornaday Jr. and Brendan Gaughan at 1:30 p.m., a Chevrolet autograph session with Newberry and Hornaday at 1:50 p.m., a NCWTS autograph session from 2 to 2:45 p.m., NCWTS practice from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Eldora Dirt Late Models at 6:30 p.m., NCWTS practice from 7 to 9 p.m., Eldora Dirt Late Model Invitational at 9 p.m. and post-race party in the Fan Zone from 9:30 p.m. to midnight.
On Wednesday spectator gates open at 10 a.m., there is a Chevrolet autograph session with Ty Dillon, Max Gresham and Brendan Gaughan at 10 a.m., a Chevrolet driver question and answer session with Max Gresham at 10:45 a.m., NCWTS final practice from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., NCWTS qualifying at 5:05 p.m., Eldora Dirt Late Models at 6 p.m. NCWTS heat races beginning at approximately 7 p.m., Eldora Dirt Late Models at approximately 8:15 p.m., a NCWTS last chance race at approximately 8:30 p.m., NCWTS driver introductions at 9:10 a.m. and the inaugural Mudsummer Classic at 9:35 p.m.
SPEED will televise six hours of programming from Eldora today and Wednesday. It will broadcast practice sessions for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series from the July 23 “Tuesday Night Tailgate” at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Wednesday’s television coverage on SPEED includes coverage of the heat races at 7 p.m. and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Setup pre-race show at 9 p.m. SPEED and MRN Radio will broadcast the Mudsummer Classic live beginning at 9:30 p.m.
Tickets for Wednesday’s Mudsummer Classic have been sold out since February, but as of Monday tickets remained for today’s events.
