Wave has a long road ahead in 2013

GREENVILLE- Coming off a three win season a year ago, the Wave boys soccer team will have a tough road to hold in 2013.

Graduating 12 seniors off last years squad, Greenville coach Brent DeVoss will have only six seniors on his roster this year.

With 28 kids total, the 2013 season will be a tough one for the Wave but DeVoss is optimistic.
"We are a little low on numbers," said DeVoss. "We would like to see more come out. We have plenty of room for them. We are young after losing 12 to graduation and they are hard to replace. All of them were pretty much starters so we are looking to rebuild this year so it's going to be a work."

The biggest problem the Wave coach has is leadership.

"We have no one that has stepped up to lead this team so night now, it"s an open door," DeVoss stated. "This is why we're doing the early practices. We need to see who's going to be one of those leaders this year. Last year, we carried two captains. We would like to carry three. The six seniors we have are four year returning players so hopefully, they will step up for us."

With the six seniors coming back, two were varsity starters and that will bode well for the Wave.
"The two that are coming back got a big taste of the GWOC, so they will be ready for the season," said DeVoss. "Hopefully they will help the younger players and will bring them to eat at the table pretty fast. We haven't determined positions yet because we're going to need to revamp the lineup."

DeVoss does see some positives though.

"Last year we had several games that was decided by only one goal," DeVoss admitted. "With the exception of Troy, all our GWOC North games were one goal games. Troy got away from us. It's going to take a lot of hard work to get us in the right direction but we know we can compete at that level."

DeVoss finished by saying the attitudes of the kids are positive and that will help the younger players as they develop.
