GTI II
run-ruled in six

GREENVILLE- Looking for the second win of the season, the GTI II team
had the wind taken out of its sails early Tuesday by Vandalia- Butler.
All hopes for that second win were pretty much dashed for the
Greenville team as Butler threw 10 runs on the board in the opening
frame.
Greenville did put up three runs the rest of the way but when then
final out was made, the scoreboard had GTI losing 14-3.
“Give Vandalia credit, they are a pretty good team,” said GTI II coach
Jacob Burke. “We got run-ruled but if you take out the walks and the
errors, we are in this game. We had one bad inning and that was the
first.”
In that opening inning, Butler sent 16 hitters to the plate, scoring 10
in the process.
The difference came at the plate as Butler had been issued eight free
passes while GTI committed two huge errors. With the four hits picked
up by the visitors, it all added up to a 10-0 first inning lead.
At the plate, GTI was being stymied by Butler right-hander, Brendon
Blalaly.
Blalaly pitched two perfect inning for Butler before allowing his first
hit of the game, a lead-off single by Austin Weiss.
One out later, Weiss would score making it a 10-1 Butler advantage.
Butler would plate two more in the fourth only to see GTI get them back
in the fifth, forcing a sixth inning.
“We gave up 10 runs early and that really put us in the hole right
there,” said Burke. “Inning by inning, if you take the first away, we
are sitting pretty nice because we are down 4-3 and we’re in the game.”
Losing the opening inning spelled doom for GTI.
“We had way too many walks and errors,” admitted Burke. “All that added
up to another loss. We you give up walks and allow free bases, that
gives up runs and that’s the bottom line.”
With the loss, GTI II fell to 1-7 on the season and will play again
Friday at home against Northmont.
