GTI III remains undefeated after beating Eaton
By George Starks

GREENVILLE- GTI III coach Matt Netzley could not have been happier with his young eighth grade team Monday.

Netzley watched his pitcher, Kyle Mills, go six strong innings at Sater Diamonds as GTI posted a convincing 6-1 victory over Eaton Monday, to go to 3-0 on the season.

Mills allowed one run in the six inning stint on six hits, striking out three while not allowing a walk.

“My pitching was stellar tonight. Kyle was strong tonight and he pitched a solid game,” said Netzley. “We haven’t had very many games but this has to be one of the more talented teams I’ve coached in a very long time. Kyle had only 70-75 pitches. He was defiantly on tonight. This was only his second time pitching this season. He had his change-up working well and he was fooling the batters.”

While Mills was sharp on the hill, the defense was even sharper, playing flawless in the field with no errors.

“Our defense was great,” said Netzley. “It’s been a long time since I coached a team without any errors. These guys played well and you couldn’t ask for a better game there.”

On offense, GTI collected only five hits in the game, scoring the six runs.

With Eaton committing four errors in the game, It was GTI that took advantage of the opportunities that was presented to them.

“We made everything count out there,” Netzley stated. “I told the guys we had to be more aggresstive a take advantage of their mistakes and they did. We did our job running the bases.”

GTI got the scoring started in the first when with one out, Andrew Steaite reached on an error by Eaton, putting him at second.

That brought catcher Garrett Strait to the plate. Strait ripped a single to left, scoring Steaite and putting the home team up 1-0.

GTi put another run on the board in the third, once again in the same manner it was done in the first as Steaite reached on an error and Strait knocking him in.

Eaton set things up in the fourth scoring its lone run of the game as Mills gave up four hits in the frame

GTI blew it open in the fifth, scoring three runs and taking a commanding 5-1 lead.

Behind the plate, Strait threw out two base runners trying to swipe second and getting into scoring position.

One of those came in the fourth with the other coming in the fifth, stopping a possible rally.

“He’s really not my main catcher,” admitted Netzley. “I think he got himself a starting role tonight. He was a rally killer for us. He doesn’t have a strong arm but he has an accurate arm. It was just a great game for us.”
