Local teams
shoot for titles
Two gymnasts head
to state

DARKE COUNTY- Darke County as a whole has a lot riding on it with
sports today as local basketball teams will be shooting for titles as
well as two local gymnasts.
On the courts today, the 23-2, Tri-Village Lady Patriots will get
things started at Tipp City against the 18-7 Yellow Springs Lady
Bulldogs.
Tri-Village, seeded first, is coming out of the Brookville sectional
having scored huge wins over Jefferson, 101-22 and a 107-13 victory
over Emmanuel Christian on a night that would see senior Teha Richards
net 40 points and get her 1,000 career point.
In the sectional final, the Patriots rolled past Newton, 46-19 to
advance to the district title game and the right to go to regional
action.
Yellow Springs is the number two seed, coming out of the Monroe
sectional beating James Gamble Mont., 53-23 and the squeaked by a weak
Xenia Christian team, 37-34 in the second round.
In the sectional final, the Bulldogs topped Cincinnati Seven Hills,
44-24 to become sectional champions.
The Patriots and Bulldogs are scheduled to tip-off at 1 pm, following
the opening contest between 22-3 Mechanicsburg and the 19-6 team from
Cincinnati Country Day.
In the final district title game, the 12-12 Franklin Monroe Lady Jets
will do battle against the 22-3 Ft. Loramie Redskins.
Franklin Monroe. Coming out of the Brookville sectional, has reached
the district with wins over Southeastern, 43-40 in a squeaker and the
posted the 43-25 blow-out of Covington in what most considered an upset.
Ft. Loramie, the top seed, won the Sidney sectional with 92-15 victory
over Riverside, the popping Ansonia, 90-20 before eliminating Triad
66-46 to move on to district.
Franklin Monroe and Ft. Loramie is scheduled for a 3 pm. starting time.
Later Saturday night, the Tri-Village and Franklin Monroe boys will
hook up with each other at Troy High School for a sectional title game
with the winner going to the district.
The Patriots, undefeated at 24-0, has met the Jets twice during the
season with the Patriots winning both games with very tight outcomes.
Tri-Village is coming off a 66-39 victory over Newton while the Jets
won a defensive battle over Southeastern, 43-37.
That game is set to tip at 7 pm.
Also today at Hilliard-Bradley High School in Columbus, Greenville’s
Paige Keller and Ansonia’s Samantha Shook will look to bring home some
hardware in the OHSAA state gymnastics meet.
Keller was second in the all-around competition in the district meet
recently at Lakota East while Shook, coming off a foot injury, was
seventh all around, just missing the opportunity to compete in all four
but will compete in two events, the bars and the floor exercise.
