Thomas Named First Team All-Ohio
By George Starks
Tri-Village senior Shaye Thomas has earned virtually every award a high
school senior can earn. Thomas joins Kayla Linkous as an all-stater for the Patriots as Linkous
was all-stare first team in both her junior and senior years.
Thomas was named MVP of the Bill Burkett Tournament, Southwest District
Player of the Year, Player of the Year in the Cross County Conference,
Co-Player of the Year by Jim Dabbelt of the Debbelt Report, scored her
1,000th point and has been named to the District Nine all-star team. Now, Thomas has been named first team all-Ohio.
Thomas, the point guard for the Patriots, was one of eight D-IV girls
players to earn this accolade. A four year varsity player, Thomas has been a huge part of the Patriots
success as Tri-Village has won four straight sectional and district
titles as well as one regional title and a state final four appearance
during her junior year." Any honor Shaye gets is well deserved," said Patriots coach Brad Grey.
"It speaks highly of our kids and the program here as well. I think
it's just a great honor."
Also
earning all-state accolades from Darke County were Greenville
senior Megan Galloway in Division II, Versailles' Katie Heckman in
Division III and Tri-Village's Teha Richards in Division IV, all of
whom were named honorable mention all-state in their divisions. With
Richards receiving honorable mention, it is the first time in
Grey's career that he has had two players in the same season receive
state honors. Richards was also a four year varsity player for Grey and
got her
1,000th point this season in a sectional game at Brookville.
Richards led the Patriots in scoring with a 16 ppg. average with 3.2
assists and nearly two rebounds a game. Galloway led the county in
scoring with 17.4 points per game and
averaged 5.2 boards a game for the Wave. Galloway will play her collage
ball at Detroit Mercy as a Lady Titan. Heckman, a junior post player,
led Versailles with 10.6 points per game
this season. She also averaged 5.2 rebounds per game.
(CNO made several attempts to reach Thomas for comment but was
unsuccessful)
