Cincinnati Bengals
Former
Pittsburgh Steeler John Clay Added to Bengals Minicamp
bengals.com
CINCINNATI- The Cincinnati Bengals are about to open this weekend’s
rookie minicamp, and there will be several players attending on a
tryout basis, the most notable of which being former Pittsburgh
Steelers fullback and Wisconsin Badger John Clay:
"Full #Bengals rookie minicamp roster released. Most intriguing tryout
guy is former Wisconsin RB John Clay."

"Former #steelers FB John Clay in #bengals rookie minicamp on a tryout
basis" — Joe Reedy (@joereedy) May 10, 2013
"#bengals have added one other local player to tryout list — LB Dwayne
Woods, who went to Princeton High and later Bowling Green."

Clay will be very interesting to watch this weekend, as the fullback
position already has Chris Pressley and John Conner on the roster, but
Chris is coming off of a serious knee injury, and Conner wasn’t very
effective last year. Perhaps Clay can earn a roster spot and take over
there.
We shall see.
Clay is currently a free agent. He was signed by the Pittsburgh
Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He played college football
for the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he was nicknamed "Gumby"
after the clay animation character. In high school he received numerous
awards for his accomplishments on the field at Washington Park High
School in Racine, Wisconsin, and was one of the most heavily recruited
players in the country. Clay was ruled ineligible to play by the NCAA
after not meeting Wisconsin admission requirements before being ruled
eligible for the 2008 season.
