Bradford pounds Yellow Springs in sectional
play
By George Starks
BRADFORD- It was a night that belonged to Mindy Brewer.
In the pitching circle, Brewer fanned six and walked one while slamming
two home runs and knocking in four, in a 22-0 winning sectional
softball effort over Yellow Springs Tuesday night at Bradford.
Bradford, seeded seventh in the sectional, jumped on the Bulldogs early
and never looked back, scoring 10 runs in the first inning, helped
along by three Bulldog errors.
"We didn't play bad," said Bradford coach Erik McReynolds. "There are
things we still need to work on and are always striving to get better."
Lindsey Rose and Brewer drew walks to start the bottom half of the
first inning. Both girls scored before the ball was hit into play
thanks to steals and wild pitches, putting Bradford up 2-0.
That opened the door for the 10 run first.
Bradford added three more in the second, six in the third and three
more in the fourth.
“Mindy came in and did a good job,” McReynolds said. “Kept the ball
low, out of the strike zone, and they chased a little.”
Brewer shut down Yellow Springs, giving up no runs on two hits, one
walk, two hit batters and six strikeouts in five innings on the mound.
With Tuesday’s win, Bradford advances to play Fort Loramie at 5 p.m.
Thursday in Fort Loramie.
“It should be a real good game,” McReynolds said. “Fort Loramie is a
tough team. Don’t make mistakes, it should be a real good game.”
In addition for the Roaders, Erika Hart was 2-2 with 2 walks, Kelly
Moore was 2-2 with a triple and 2 walks, Michayla Barga was 1-2 with 2
RBI’s.
