Lady Wave heading back to regionals
WEST CARROLTON- Greenville senior Erin Albright hit two consecutive
home runs Saturday as the Lady Wave softball team spanked Valley View,
13-2 in the district title game Saturday.
The district title is the seventh for the Wave in their last eight
appearances at that level.
With the regular season being well completed and put to rest, the
second season is a one and done deal for all teams.
“Any given day anything can happen, each day I’m watching around the
state and great teams fall. You can just come out and stub your toe or
take things for granted, and this time of year you can’t do that,” said
Greenville Softball coach Jerrod Newland. “You’ve got to come out and
give your best effort.”
Valley View got things going early by pushing the Wave, getting the
first two hitters aboard before Greenville put a stop to the attack
when sophomore pitcher Ally Russell got two strikeouts and then a pop
fly to junior Karlee Lennon at third.
“They came out and put a ball in play a couple times and we didn’t make
the plays, next thing you know we’ve got runners on second and third
with their best hitters up,” Newland said. “Escaping that inning with
no runs was great.”
Albright got the Greenville half of the inning started with a home run,
followed by two more runs later in the frame and a 3-0 Greenville lead
as Allison Miccich and Ashton Kestor had the big hits.
Greenville will now play tonight in the regional semi-finals at Mason
against Lancaster Fairfield Union, starting at 5 p.m.
In other action Saturday, the Arcanum baseball team will be heading to
the regionals as the Trojans popped Lehman Catholic 8-4.
Donnie Kress went 3-4 in the game including a two run single that
helped stake the Trojans to a 6-0 first inning lead.
Arcanum will take on Russia at Carlton Davidson Stadium in Springfield
Thursday.
The Franklin Monroe Lady Jets bowed out of the state softball
tournament, losing to the top ranked Covington Lady Buccs, 17-0 while
in baseball action, the Versailles Tigers fell to Cincinnati Christian
11-1 in baseball.
