Versailles Boys
Varsity Bowlers Dominate 1st Match
The
WOHSBC kicked off
the 2013-14 season at Plaza Lanes in Celina. The Tigers went up
against the Parkway Panthers at their home bowling center. “We were
supposed to be bowling on fresh oil today as the girls only have 14
teams and lanes 15 and 16 were open the 1st shift. However, with
Coldwater Football playing in the afternoon, Coldwater and St. Henry
bowled the 1st shift due to some of the kids also being on the
football team. (St. Henry beat Coldwater)” stated Coach Davidson.
“The
match started
out very close the 1st half of the 1st game as we were still trying
to figure out the lanes. Lane 16 was hooking about 8-10 boards more
than lane 15. 3 out of the 5 starters were using two different balls
to try and combat the huge difference in reaction on each lane,”
said Coach Davidson. It looked as if Versailles was starting to
figure out the lanes as they went on a good run the last half of the
game to win 929 to 823. The 2nd game faired even better with
Versailles winning 1,025 to 836 with Dustin Ruhe rolling a 232, Zach
Marshal 232 and Michael Davidson 224. Freshman Alex Groff saw his
first varsity game in the 2nd game and he rolled a fine 181. “I
told Alex that he needed to use his Vivid on the left lane and his
C-System 4.5 on the right lane. Nothing like your 1st varsity game
having to use two different balls and two different lines. For being
a freshman and Alex rolling a 181 in that situation gives me a great
feeling as a coach, “ said Davidson.
The
Baker Games the
Tigers rolled 158, 239, 212, 184 and 155. 3 of the Baker Games were
bowled on lane 16, which was completely burned up by then (very
little oil on the lane) The Tigers were led by Michael Davidson with
a 226 and 224, Dustin Ruhe 232, and Zach Marshal with a 225.
“I
told the guys
even though we are not quite as deep as we have in been in the past
that with a lot of hard work we still not only have the talent to win
the conference, but to make a run at State this year. What a great
confidence booster for these guys as they ended up rolling the
highest match series of the day for the entire conference.” Said
Coach Davidson
The
Tigers will
compete this Saturday against the St. Marys Roughriders at Plamor
Lanes in Coldwater. Please visit www.wohsbc.com for in depth stats and the final conference standings.
