Michael Davidson
wins 2 NWOJTBT
Tournaments
The Northwest Ohio Junior
Tournament Bowlers Tour (NWOJTBT) recently held 3 Singles Bowling
Tournaments in
Napoleon, Delphos and Bowling Green - Each tournament have different
formats with at
least 5 qualifying games and then the cut to match play. Either
bracket style match play or stepladder format match play. These
tournaments also provide a very challenging oil pattern from the
World Tournament Bowlers Association catalog of oil patterns.
After 5
games of qualifying
in Napoleon, Michael led the tournament by 123 pins. The filed was
then cut to the top 7 with everyone bowling 3 more game. After 8
games, Davidson secured the top spot by 124 pins. He had to win only
one match play game in the stepladder format but was defeated by
former Wapakoneta bowler and now Wright State Raider bowler, Luke
Manger.
The next
tourney was in
Delphos on the grueling Tokyo lane pattern. After 5 games of
qualifying, Michael found himself in 4th place. The cut was made to
the top 8 for bracket style match play. Davidson defeated Urbana
University standout and former Dexter High School All- American, Kyle
Mayberry 212-179 and 175-165 to move to the next round. Davidson then
defeated Nick Fox 236-168. The finals were set for a re-match with
Luke and Michael. Davidson prevailed this time and was declared the
tournament champion.
This past
Sunday, Davidson
traveled to Bowling Green for the last NWOJTBT tourney of the year.
The high school season starts 11/5/2013, so all tournament
competition is done until the season has been completed. After 5
games of qualifying on the Stockholm pattern, Davidson led the field
by over 60 pins. The field was then cut to the top 8 with bracket
style match play. He won his 1st best 2 out of 3 match in 3 games.
The next game went back and forth, but a great adjustment on the
lanes with a crucial strike the 1st ball in the 10th secured the win.
He then had to face St.
Henry’s Garret Stout in the finals. The lanes had really gotten
tough. With a 9 spare then a split in the
2nd, Davidson made a move back to the outside. It was the right move,
but the pins would not cooperate. He proceed to leave a (3) 9 pins,
(2) 4 pins, (1) 7 pin and (1) 10 pin. He converted every spare to win
the match by 20 pins. “Strikes are more fun to throw, but making
(9) single pin spares to win a tournament shows that grinding out a
game like that can pay off in the end.” said Michael.
